Offline Note Capture: Using Your XNote Pen Without the App

Updated over 3 weeks ago

What is Offline Note Capture?

Offline Note Capture is a powerful feature of your XNote smart pen that allows you to take notes without connecting to the XNote app. This means you can write anytime, anywhere, even without your mobile device nearby. Your notes are stored in the pen's internal memory and will sync to the app when you reconnect.

How It Works

  1. Write as Usual: Use your XNote pen to write in your XNote notebook as you normally would.

  2. Automatic Storage: Your pen automatically stores the notes in its 100MB internal memory.

  3. Later Sync: When you next connect your pen to the XNote app, all your offline notes will automatically synchronize.

Benefits of Offline Note Capture

  • Write Anytime, Anywhere: Take notes without needing your phone or tablet nearby.

  • No Internet Required: Perfect for areas with poor or no internet connectivity.

  • Extended Battery Life: Preserve your mobile device's battery by using just the pen.

  • Distraction-Free Writing: Focus on your thoughts without app notifications.

  • Seamless Integration: Your offline notes integrate perfectly with your online notes once synced.

Capacity and Limitations

  • Your XNote pen can store up to 6 hours and 30 minutes of continuous writing.

  • The pen has 100MB of internal storage.

  • Once the memory is full, the oldest notes may be overwritten, so regular syncing is recommended.

Best Practices

  1. Regular Syncing: Connect your pen to the app regularly to ensure all your notes are safely transferred.

  2. Check Battery Life: Ensure your pen is sufficiently charged before long offline writing sessions.

  3. Use XNote Notebooks: Always use official XNote notebooks to ensure proper capture of your writing.

  4. Varied Writing Styles: Feel free to write, draw, or sketch – the pen captures it all.

How to Sync Offline Notes

  1. Open the XNote app on your mobile device.

  2. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.

  3. Turn on your XNote pen if it's not already on.

  4. The app should automatically detect your pen and begin syncing.

At this point, it’s important to note that if you already have a notebook, the pen will automatically sync with it. This will be your primary notebook. You will see the following warning:

  5. On the notebook selection screen, you can choose to transfer all pages from there and select a notebook. If you prefer to save pages individually, you can tap on the notebook instead.

    6. For single-page transfer, you can also view your notes, including what you've drawn.

When switching to that screen, you should stay on this screen while data is being transferred. If you exit and return, please note that the process will restart.

Please wait for the process to complete while performing actions on this screen. If you want to go back, make sure the transfer is not in progress; otherwise, you may lose your pages.

7. You will now have reached the detail page for your pages. Here, you can save any page to any notebook you prefer.

8. If you prefer, you can also save multiple pages at once.

9. Once the process is complete, you will receive a notification, and you can continue using the app.
